All Trunks Busy (ATB)

This is what the call center manager sees if there were ever a situation where all trunks were filled with callers or patches. What this means is all available lines are currently occupied with callers or data. Therefore no calls can come into the system.

With our company, The Successful Office Group, we do not get ATB signals any longer as we have numerous PRI lines set up to handle any sudden increase in call volume.

ATB signals were more common place when regular d.i.d. (direct inward dialing) lines were utilized. Before T-1 and then PRI lines became available, D.I.D. lines were commonplace in the call center and answering service industry.

In fact before 1980 all answering services used D.I.D. lines, as this was the then state of the art equipment.
