VPTC Tech Town Hall Explores the Way to a Robust Economy

As manufacturing jobs have all but left the Piedmont region, what kind of jobs
will sustain the area? How does a community expand its technology sector
while minimizing impact on its infrastructure? Can technology jobs be
created for those who already live in our community? These questions are
central to the upcoming Technology Town Hall series presented by the
Virginia Piedmont Technology Council (VPTC), one of ten technology councils
in the state of Virginia.
The two-part luncheon series is designed to promote conversation and
prompt action that will help grow the region's technology sector. "Choosing
Our Future: Austin or Aspen," will be held Tuesday, January 23, followed by
"Building a Critical Mass Tech Sector" on Thursday, February 22. Both
events will be held from 11:00 a.m. -- 1:30 p.m. at the Omni Hotel in
downtown Charlottesville. The series has been underwritten by LeClair Ryan,
a Professional Corporation.
The goal of the series is to stimulate thinking of civic and business
leaders and residents in the community in order to develop a place where
technology entrepreneurs will choose as their home, providing great jobs
for our residents.
"A strong technology sector is a critical ingredient to a robust
economy," says Gary Henry, VPTC Chairman and President of GF Henry and
Associates. "It's necessary to balance the area's growth with other sectors
such as the arts, agribusiness, tourism and hospitality, and the growing
retirement community. We know we need critical mass of skilled workers for
current and future high- tech employers to be able to offer more
career-ladder jobs," he says.
Tech Town Hall events are open to VPTC members, the general public, and
the media. Advance tickets and payment are requested and available online
at
http://www.vptc.org. Seating is limited. Advance tickets for single
luncheons are $32 for VPTC members; $40 for non-Members.
The Virginia Piedmont Technology Council is a non-profit organization
whose mission is to cultivate the strength and success of the technology
community in the greater Charlottesville region. The Council offers access
to exclusive programs, information and business opportunities for members
and supporters. Headquartered in Charlottesville, VPTC has more than 200
member companies.
