Call Center and
Answering Service Blog
April 10, 2007
The weeks just fly by and Easter has
come and gone. An interesting development took place in the main
call center recently. A debate was started regarding holidays and
paid holidays and whether or not the U.S. was a Christian nation or
not.
The owners of The Successful Office Group of
call centers and answering services used to have paid holidays for
Christmas, Easter and other holidays. Unfortunately living in New
York City gives us employees from all faiths and religions. We even
have a Wiccan and a Druid in the office!
Well it turns out that one of the call center
reps complained that we didn't give them a paid day off for their
holiday. Then everyone chimed in with what about Ramadan, Yom Kippur
and so on. The end result was a reconfirmation of our own
policies where we no longer give any paid holidays for any religious
day. Adherents can take a religious day off, but it is not paid.
Some were expecting the company to give
everyone their holidays off with pay, but if you really think about
it- that would bankrupt the company since employees would be paid to
NOT work.
