Recently
I had a sales call for our company with an individual that had the
misfortune of signing up and trying out 3 different answering
services or call centers based in the United States. It is
incredible to see what is out there in the way of of other
organizations in this industry.
The first company she had signed up with for
her mortgage company is a nationally known company that is on the
first page of Google when one searches for an answering service.
They had her sign a 3 month contract as well as forced her to put
down a $500 deposit. She was told that this was a standard in the
industry (FALSE) She then had
reps that couldn't even pronounce her company name fielding her
calls. I don't have to say what the outcome was as it will be enough
to say you do indeed get what you pay for.
If you are considering signing up with a
service, please be sure to ask many many questions and also get
quotes from at least 3 different companies. There is no reason to
put a deposit down unless you are an established business and use
thousands and thousands of minutes per month - and know your call
volume is that high.
There is never any reason to sign a
contract with a company that you've never used before. What happens
if you are not happy with them as is the case quite often in the
industry? You still have to pay them and some will even sue you in
their state to force you to pay them for their
service, even if you quit. When you sign their contract with a
lot of fine print - you are giving up your rights to NOT pay them if
they are horrible with their customer service.
