Bend Local Marketing - 3 Ways to Generate Business

A lot of businesses spend so much of their time on business operations, that promoting their businesses becomes an afterthought, or something to simply throw money at. There are no "bad" mediums, within reason, when it comes to advertising tools. But the question is, are you marketing your business correctly? Here are just a few things which you can be doing, to ensure that you are effectively promoting new business.

Learn to Embrace the Internet
I have done a lot of research involving marketing strategies, their effectiveness, as well as the tendencies of companies and especially small businesses to incorporate sound marketing plans into their businesses. The most interesting, and universally accepted notion that I found was the belief that "the internet does not affect my local business". This is absolutely false! The first step in generating new business, is to embrace the internet as your ally in any business endeavor, most definitely to include "local" businesses.

Learn the Effectiveness of Email and Lists
The digital age has given us some powerful tools which we didn't have before. Prior to the web, if a company wanted to build a list to market to, they had to keep in depth records of their customers, complete with contact info and so on. So, when a company held a promotion or wanted to announce an event, they had to prepare the documents and send them all out by mail. Not only is this time consuming, but it is expensive! Your business now has the ability to generate business using these methods in a manner that is both inexpensive and almost entirely automated! And having a local business actually puts you at an advantage! The simple reason is that you do not have to compete with every business online, but only the ones in YOUR area. And as I have already stated, most businesses still don't realize the importance of this, hence, by simply reading this and having this knowledge you already have the upper hand. Sure, they may have websites and so on, but are they using them correctly and effectively? Based upon my research, the answer to that question is a resounding NO!

Make Your Website Work for YOU
Most businesses believe that a website exists simply to provide a place for people to see that you exist, and to receive contact info and so on. At times, fair attention is paid to graphics and presentation, and this is good, however, it is not the essence of your site. First, a potential customer wants to have as much information about you and your business as they can receive without actually having to contact you. Customers want their information instantly! And if you cannot provide it, they will move on to someone who can. Second, entice a customer to want to provide you with their information. This is easily one of the most overlooked aspects of having a business website. This little transaction, all be it not monetary, provides you with the opportunity to advertise to this potential customer at later date, either for new business, or for repeat business. Finally, your website should contain something which sets you apart from the rest. Every site which I've visited in any particular genre, has failed to offer this very important little detail. Again, sometimes graphics are a little better here or there, but all of the sites were practically identical, offering a basically identical experience. And when it comes to your business, you don't simply want to be one name out of twenty in a hat which provides a blind and basic "lottery" for a potential customer in choosing a business.

Follow these three basic components and I assure you that you will begin to see results. The key to effectively marketing your business is to properly utilize the tools which are available to you. Throwing money at the problem will never net you desirable results. Remember to always be trying to procure 'new' business, as well as doing everything you can to keep your customers coming back to YOU!

Why are small businesses LOSING business and failing to promote REPEAT business with the tools that are available to them?

The fact is that most business owners simply do not know how to effectively market their businesses. Nor do they have the time to keep up with the constant changes occurring online, and in marketing and advertising.
